Lladro Figurines
Juan,Vicent and brother Jose started their journey to create figurines of the highest quality in 1953 in a workshop in their home town of Almaaera in Valencia, Spain.Inspired by the Moorish designs that they saw every day they set out to create works of beauty and thuoghtfully designed figurines that have become collectible around the world.
Thier beatifully crafted pieces take elements of eighteenth century trends and carefully work them into their own works, innovations in design and also the way in which they fired the sculptures brought them to the notice of the public and demand for their figurines grew to the point where they out grew the family workshop and moved to the nearby town of Tavernes Blanques
A particular technique developed by the brothers was the "one layer firing" method which brings about the noted crystalline finish associated with their figures. The tonal aspect of the Lladro sculptures is another consequence of this firing method
